# Who Is Duffy? "Who Is Duffy?" refers to a question Canadian interviewer Nardwuar asked musician Grimes in a 2012 YouTube video, prompting her reply that Duffy is her muse and runs the cult she belongs to. Twelve years later, in January 2024, a TikTok clip of the exchange went viral and became an audio template where creators cast an ordinary person, like a sibling or pet, as their own worshipped "Duffy." ## Origin Canadian interviewer Nardwuar posted his interview with musician Grimes to YouTube on March 27th, 2012[1]. Around the 9:11 mark, he asks "Who is Duffy?" and Grimes replies, "Duffy is my muse and he also runs the cult that I'm in"[1]. The clip accumulated over 1.8 million total views by 2024[1]. On January 12th, 2024, TikToker @grimescb isolated the exchange into a standalone clip, which drew over 9 million plays and 554,200 likes within two weeks[2]. That upload produced a reusable TikTok audio others could attach to their own videos[5]. - **Platform:** YouTube (2012 source) / TikTok (2024 viral spread) - **Creator:** Nardwuar Serviette and Grimes (source clip); @grimescb (TikTok cut) - **Date:** 2012 ## Overview Videos set to the "Who Is Duffy?" sound typically pair the audio with on-screen text naming the person being "worshipped" by the poster. The joke works because Grimes delivers her cult-leader line with a calm, matter-of-fact tone[1], so creators cast ordinary figures like younger siblings, cats or barely-known classmates into the same elevated role. Posts tend to film the "Duffy" figure acting normal while the caption claims deep devotion[3]. Trending edits spread quickly because the setup needs only a single audio clip and one line of text. Common versions range from pet owners describing attachment to a specific animal, to teens casting crushes as objects of secret devotion[7]. The appeal comes from the contrast between Grimes' deadpan answer and the ordinary subjects. ## How to Use Creators typically attach the "Who Is Duffy?" audio to a short clip of or about the person being "worshipped," then overlay text that names the subject in cult-leader language. Common captions include lines like "me explaining my [sibling/pet/crush] to friends" or references to someone the poster claims a group secretly reveres[3]. Posters often choose subjects who look completely ordinary against the audio's deadpan delivery. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### What is Who Is Duffy??
