# Wifejak

Wifejak is a Wojak variant drawn as a red-haired woman in a grey sweater, created by Redditor u/AvaSpelledBackwards in January 2021 as a self-portrait. The image sat quietly on Reddit for over a year before X user @PaulSkallas repurposed it in July 2022 to caption stereotypical wife behavior. By April 2024, posts about yellow pillow replacements and backseat driving had turned the character into daily rotation on X, soon accompanied by a male counterpart called Husbandjak.

## Origin
On January 7, 2021, Redditor u/AvaSpelledBackwards posted a Wojak drawn as a self-portrait to r/WojakDrawings with the note that she had not drawn in a while and wanted a project[1]. She reposted the image to r/WojakTemplate the following day. Neither post attracted much attention, picking up roughly 15 and 50 upvotes respectively across the next three years[6].

The first known use of the character under the "wifejak" label came from X user @PaulSkallas on July 17, 2022, who captioned the image with "Where are we going this weekend?" as a stand-in for a stereotypical wife question[2]. That post sat around 360 likes over the next two years, and @PaulSkallas kept experimenting with similar captions through 2022 and 2023 without the format catching on widely[6].

## Overview
A Wifejak post pairs the illustration with a short caption written in the voice of a wife speaking to her husband. Captions range from mild observations like "Where are we going this weekend?"[2] to sudden backseat directions like "you were supposed to turn there"[4]. Most entries come from men quoting something their wife or girlfriend actually said, with the red-haired character acting as an affectionate stand-in rather than a target of mockery.

The humor usually sits in the specific banality of the quote: throwing cardboard boxes into the garage[3], replacing a husband's favorite pillow[5], or being annoyed about a forgotten birthday. @LittleMammith summarized the tone as coming from "a spirit of adoration and playful teasing"[8], which distinguishes Wifejak posts from meaner Wojak traditions. By April 2024, the character also appeared in AI video edits placing her face over celebrities, including Lil Yachty walking onstage[9].

## How to Use
A typical Wifejak post pairs the illustration with a one-line caption written as something a wife or girlfriend said. The common convention is to pick a specific, mundane quote rather than a general joke, often a complaint, a surprise purchase, a driving instruction, or a decorating change. Keep the tone affectionate; posts read as men fondly repeating a line their partner actually said.
