# Winona Ryder's SAG Award Reaction At the 2017 Screen Actors Guild Awards on January 29, actress Winona Ryder cycled through a wild run of facial expressions while standing next to David Harbour during the Stranger Things ensemble win. Twitter users screencapped the reactions in real time, kicking off one of the biggest instant awards-show memes of the year. ## Origin The clip comes from the 23rd Screen Actors Guild Awards, held January 29, 2017, in Los Angeles, where the Stranger Things cast won Best Ensemble in a Drama Series[2]. As David Harbour delivered the acceptance speech, cameras held on Ryder standing beside him, and her shifting facial expressions ran in parallel to his remarks about standing up for marginalized communities[5]. The first viral posts came from Twitter user @WellsAdams, who tweeted screencaps during the live broadcast with captions like "Winona Ryder is lit AF" and "Winona Ryder is ordering a drink on stage"[1][8]. Those posts framed the public reading of the clip before the ceremony had even finished airing[3]. - **Platform:** Live TV broadcast / Twitter (viral spread) - **Creator:** Unknown - **Date:** 2017 ## Overview The meme runs on a single stretch of broadcast footage, during which Ryder shifts between confusion, laughter, suspicion, and visible emotion while Harbour delivers a politically charged acceptance speech on behalf of the Stranger Things cast[1]. Fans isolated individual frames to use as reaction images, pairing them with captions about relatable states like being drunk, bored, or dissociating onstage[2]. Edits layer music over the clip to amplify the comedic timing, with Michael Andrews and Gary Jules' cover of "Mad World" and the Stranger Things synth theme among the most-shared backing tracks[4]. The reaction frames also spread as isolated screencaps on Twitter, where captions from user @WellsAdams such as "Winona Ryder is lit AF" set the tone for the first wave of jokes[1][8]. Mainstream outlets covered the online response within hours, with Page Six branding her "the ultimate SAG Awards meme"[7]. ## How to Use People typically crop individual frames from the acceptance speech and use them as reaction images for moments of confusion, disbelief, or exaggerated mood swings. A common convention is to pair the clip with unrelated music so Ryder's expressions appear to react to the audio, with "Mad World" and the Stranger Things theme being frequent picks[4]. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### What is Winona Ryder's SAG Award Reaction?
