# "You Poor Thing" Ghostface Thirst Trap "You Poor Thing" Ghostface Thirst Trap started on August 30, 2021, when TikToker @nessie.ttk filmed himself adjusting a Scream-franchise Ghostface mask against a red backdrop while on-screen text read "you poor thing." The clip reached 4.2 million views within a week and inspired two spinoffs, ironic imitations using paper masks and a pareidolia trend where TikTokers filmed objects shaped like the killer's hooded face. By September 7, 2021, the format had moved onto Twitter with an edit of Draken from the anime Tokyo Revengers. ## Origin On August 30, 2021, TikToker @nessie.ttk posted the originating video, which showed him standing against a red wall and tilting a Ghostface mask up with his bare hand[1]. The caption read "you like being humiliated though, don't you?" while the on-screen overlay said "you poor thing"[1]. Know Your Meme logged the clip at over 4.2 million views within its first week[3]. - **Platform:** TikTok (TikTok, then Twitter) - **Creator:** @nessie.ttk - **Date:** 2021 ## Overview Posts in the original style show a person in bedroom or studio lighting slowly adjusting the mask with a bare hand to the same TikTok sound while "you poor thing" sits across the frame[1]. The caption on @nessie.ttk's video, "you like being humiliated though, don't you?", set the sarcastic tone that follow-ups mimicked[1]. Imitators used obvious parody masks, like paper cutouts taped to their faces, to flip the thirst-trap sincerity into a joke[2]. The pareidolia spinoff removes the human performer entirely. Instead, TikTokers point their cameras at ordinary items that happen to look like Ghostface, including a bowl of soggy cereal or a cluster of piano keys with a mouth drawn on, and overlay the same "you poor thing" caption[3]. Both strains share the same audio and text treatment, which lets viewers recognize the joke even when the subject is inanimate[4]. ## How to Use To make a version, creators typically overlay the words "you poor thing" on any image that looks like the Ghostface mask or on a person wearing a poor imitation of it[2]. Common takes film household items with hole or hood shapes, like cereal or piano keys, while others film themselves in paper or printed masks to parody the sincere thirst trap[5]. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### What is "You Poor Thing" Ghostface Thirst Trap?
