# Your Reward Will Be Great Your Reward Will Be Great is an exploitable format pulled from a 2000 SpongeBob SquarePants episode where King Neptune parts a cloud of smoke to reveal a prize, then accidentally unveils the wrong object and sheepishly apologizes. The clip bounced around YouTube and Tumblr for years before a 2018 four-panel Reddit template turned it into one of that summer's biggest bait-and-switch meme formats. ## Origin The source clip comes from "Neptune's Spatula," a SpongeBob SquarePants episode that aired on Nickelodeon on April 1st, 2000[7]. In the scene, King Neptune tells SpongeBob his reward will be great, waves away a plume of smoke, briefly reveals the wrong object, and apologizes before trying again. Nickelodeon produced the show; no single meme creator is credited for the format that grew out of the scene. - **Platform:** SpongeBob SquarePants (source) / Reddit (viral spread) - **Creator:** Unknown - **Date:** 2000 ## Overview Your Reward Will Be Great works as a bait-and-switch gag. King Neptune promises SpongeBob a prize, pushes aside a cloud of smoke, flinches at what he actually revealed, apologizes, and tries again. Editors swap the hidden object with whatever punchline fits, from pop stars to NSFW shots to recursive jokes about the meme itself[1][4]. The format shows up in two main shapes. The older version is a video or GIF remix that cuts the reveal to a surprise image or clip, which is how it first spread on YouTube and Tumblr[1][3]. The newer version is a four-panel exploitable image: Neptune announcing the reward, the smoke, the embarrassing wrong reveal, and the real one. That image-macro layout is the one that took off on Reddit in August 2018[2]. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### What is Your Reward Will Be Great?
