Charge Your Chromebook, also known as Daily Reminder To Charge Your Chromebook and Don't Forget To Charge Dat Chromebook, is a running TikTok joke from 2022 among middle and high schoolers about remembering to charge the Google Chromebooks their schools send home each night. Early videos surfaced in January 2022, and by September creators were stitching the warning onto bait-and-switch clips featuring Ice Spice and other viral figures.

Overview

Charge Your Chromebook jokes work because many American schools hand every student a Google Chromebook that must go home and get plugged in overnight, and showing up with a dead battery annoys teachers5. TikTok clips lean on this shared frustration, with creators styling the reminder as either a sincere PSA or a stealth prank. A TTS-voice version popularized by the @charge_your_chromebook1 account layers a Goofy Ahh sound under the flat warning "Daily reminder to charge your Chromebook"2.

Later edits turn the phrase into a punchline attached to the end of unrelated clips, with creators cutting from an Ice Spice reel or a dating-advice bit straight to the Chromebook reminder6. Spam comments repeating "Daily reminder to charge your Chromebook" also appeared as copypasta beneath popular TikTok posts5.

Chromebook-charging videos first appeared on TikTok in early 2022. On January 3rd, 2022, user @yeems_ posted a clip explaining that she had not opened her school-issued laptop since the start of winter break and needed to plug it in; the video reached roughly 617,000 plays and 127,700 likes over nine months, making it the earliest viral example1. Two months later, on March 3rd, 2022, a dedicated account named @charge_your_chromebook1 made its first upload, using a Goofy Ahh sound with a text-to-speech voice reading "Daily reminder to charge your Chromebook"2. That upload collected roughly 18,300 plays and 2,300 likes in seven months.

How It Spread

Attention climbed when @charge_your_chromebook1 posted a follow-up on March 7th, 2022, which gathered around 113,200 plays and 35,100 likes within seven months3. Chromebook-charging jokes stayed quiet on TikTok before spiking again that September and October.

A breakout moment came from TikToker @brucedropthesoap, who on September 11th, 2022 posted a photo slideshow showing a Black man holding a finger to his lips alongside the caption "dont forget to charge dat chromebook"4. The slideshow drew roughly 270,500 plays and 65,200 likes in a month and became a template other creators tacked onto the end of unrelated videos as bait-and-switch media.

Within days, stitch edits made the reminder a surprise punchline. On September 22nd, 2022, @jack_morris0 stitched an Ice Spice clip that ended with the brucedropthesoap slideshow, collecting about 357,500 likes in three weeks6. Two days later, @iamactuallylying posted a similar edit that also referenced Rizz and the Reese's Pieces "favorite candy" format, drawing roughly 61,500 plays and 11,900 likes in 19 days7.

How to Use This Meme

Creators typically append the "dont forget to charge dat chromebook" slideshow or the TTS warning onto the tail end of an unrelated TikTok, often a thirst-trap or dating-advice bit, so viewers get a mundane school reminder instead of the expected payoff4. The exact phrasing is also pasted as spam comments under high-view videos.
