Chickun is a 4chan image macro format using photoshopped Scootaloo faces from My Little Pony paired with the chant "Arise, Chickun".

Where did Chickun come from?

The visual is from a season three My Little Pony scene and the fandom joke that Scootaloo is a chicken, while the chant is from the Aqua Teen Hunger Force episode "Video Ouija".

What does Chickun mean?

Chickun is a deliberate misspelling of chicken tied to Scootaloo, who Apple Bloom teases as a chicken because she cannot fly.

How do you use Chickun?

Edits typically face-swap the warped Scootaloo frame into unrelated images and caption them with the "Arise, Chickun" chant borrowed from Billy Witch Doctor's resurrection ritual.

Is Chickun still popular?

Chickun is a classic 4chan-era format from the early 2010s brony wars, and tagged image pools for it are still archived on sites like Derpibooru.

Overview

Chickun is a 4chan image macro format built around photoshopped, edited, and face-swapped stills of Scootaloo, the pegasus filly from My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic1. The pictures pair her wide-mouthed, buggy-eyed expression with the chant "Arise, Chickun," lifted from Aqua Teen Hunger Force2.

The threads mostly ran on /b/ and adjacent boards, where the joke worked as both an inside gag for the brony crowd and as pointed spam aimed at the anti-brony camp3. The recognizable look is a single warped Scootaloo frame that gets stretched, tiled, and dropped into unrelated macros4.

The visual gag traces back to a running MLP fandom joke where Apple Bloom teases Scootaloo for not being able to fly, sticking her with the "Scootaloo is a chicken" label3. The frozen face used in most edits is pulled from a season three episode where Scootaloo skips through frame with an odd expression3.

The catchphrase itself comes from the Aqua Teen Hunger Force season three premiere "Video Ouija"1. In that episode, Frylock hires "Billy Witch Doctor" to resurrect Master Shake after Carl grinds him into pool stew, and Billy leads a séance chanting "Arise, Chicken, Arise" while smacking a chicken staff on the ground2.

How It Spread

After 4chan tightened its rules and pushed pony content off /b/ into the dedicated /mlp/ board, some posters started dropping Scootaloo Chickun threads back on /b/ to bait moderators and pull reactions out of the anti-brony crowd4. A tripcode user going by "Smokey" was flagged in board discussions as one of the more persistent posters running the threads4.

The tag stuck on image-hosting sites, with Derpibooru maintaining a dedicated Chickun pool for edits and remixes5. Urban Dictionary entries piled on with their own takes, from affectionate "fluffy creature" definitions to Scouse slang treating "chickun" as a pronunciation of chicken6.

How to Use This Meme

A typical Chickun edit takes the wide-eyed Scootaloo frame and either face-swaps it onto another character or tiles it across a background, often captioned with "Arise Chickun" in the ritual-chant style from Aqua Teen Hunger Force2. On 4chan the format is commonly posted as an OP image to start a thread, with replies stacking more warped Scootaloo edits4.
