Dont Look At The Template

Don't Look at the Template is a TikTok bait-and-switch trend where creators post random short videos captioned 'don't look at the template' on top of a CapCut template, betting that reverse psychology will push viewers to tap through and see the template's preview1. When curious users click the 'Try this template' button, the payoff is often unrelated or crude content, with one of the most common results being a clip of Enhypen member Jay set to Juice Wrld's 'All Girls are the Same'5.

The format sits alongside Rickrolling as a modern reverse-psychology gag, though some TikTokers argue it's more about padding watch time than delivering a real punchline6. Because the template preview is what viewers actually see when they tap through, the whole trend rides on curiosity beating skepticism.

Common convention is to overlay the on-screen text 'don't look at the template' on a short unrelated video while using a CapCut template. The dare pulls curious viewers into tapping the 'Try this template' button, which lengthens watch time and typically reveals a random or joke preview rather than anything tied to the caption1.
