Overview

Firepods is a batch of Reddit jokes from January 2020 built around real products that share the name Firepod, most often a portable pizza oven and a PreSonus audio interface1. The whole gag was set up by a prediction post a year earlier that named the meme in advance and told people when to expect it5.

The format took two shapes. In January 2019, users posted placeholder images captioned "This Meme Is From The Future," treating Firepods as a meme they couldn't yet make2. A year later, Redditors delivered on the setup by posting actual Firepod product photos as the promised meme4. The joke worked because it was a self-fulfilling prophecy played out on schedule.

On January 25, 2019, Redditor FreeVegetable posted in r/dankmemes noting that Tide Pods had dominated January 2018 and AirPods had dominated January 20191. They predicted Firepods would follow in January 2020 and Earthpods in January 2021, completing the elemental set of water, air, fire, and earth pods5. The post pulled over 136,000 upvotes.

How It Spread

The same day the prediction went up, other users started making "This Meme Is From The Future" posts referencing Firepods. Redditor Waybe's version in r/me_irl gained over 8,400 points2, and user jan_boro made a similar post in r/dankmemes3. These functioned as anticipatory memes about a meme that didn't exist yet, keeping the concept warm for a full year.

January 2020 delivered on the setup. On January 1, 2020, Redditor Greg05 posted in r/dankmemes using photos of a Firepod portable pizza oven, gaining over 12,000 points4. Redditor ForTheDamagedRotten posted their own version the same day for a smaller 240 points4. Contributors leaned on both the pizza oven and the PreSonus Firepod audio interface as the visual payoff1.

How to Use This Meme

The template typically pairs the word Firepods with product photos of anything actually named Firepod, most commonly the portable pizza oven or the PreSonus audio mixer1. A common convention is to call back to the January 2019 prediction post, framing the image as a delivered promise rather than a standalone joke5.
