I Am So Proud of This Community is a reaction image pulled from Gabbie Hanna's segment in the 2018 YouTube Rewind, where she praised creators for their honesty about hard topics. Overview

I Am So Proud of This Community is a still of YouTuber Gabbie Hanna smiling warmly during her spoken segment in the 2018 YouTube Rewind1. The image gets pasted next to clips or screenshots that show YouTube creators and their viewers behaving in the exact opposite of the noble way Hanna describes, so the sincerity of her line reads as pure sarcasm2.

The format works because the original delivery is completely earnest. Editors pair the smiling still with content ranging from stupid injuries to Filthy Frank absurdity to the Rewind's own record-breaking dislike count, and the mismatch does the joke2. It circulated most heavily on /r/dankmemes in December 2018 alongside the broader wave of Rewind mockery3.

The source clip comes from YouTube Rewind 2018: Everyone Controls Rewind, uploaded to the official YouTube Spotlight channel on December 6, 20181. During her segment, Gabbie Hanna praises the community for making honest content about difficult times and says the line "I am so proud of this community"1.

Within days, the screenshot was lifted out of context and reposted as a reaction image on Reddit, where users treated it as the sincerest possible caption for the most cursed possible material2.

How It Spread

On December 10, 2018, Redditor joe_cesar412 posted the reaction on /r/dankmemes attached to a screenshot of a child electrocuting himself, and the post cleared 23,000 points2. Two days earlier, Redditor jtw had already paired the still with a moment from a Filthy Frank video for over 1,400 points2.

A more sincere strain of the joke latched onto the Rewind's own reception. As the 2018 Rewind passed Justin Bieber's "Baby" to become the site's most disliked video, /r/dankmemes user jkaeeagle posted an edit riffing on that news that pulled in more than 79,000 points3 2.

On December 21, 2018, PewDiePie referenced the meme in a video that racked up over 450,000 views in under two hours, which pushed the format well past its Reddit home2.

How to Use This Meme

The typical build is a two-panel or side-by-side edit: Hanna's smiling still on one side, and on the other any clip, screenshot, or headline where YouTube creators or fans are behaving embarrassingly. The joke only works if the paired content is genuinely dumb, mean, or humiliating, so the earnest caption reads as sarcasm2.
