Overview

Trollface is a wide, jagged grin drawn in scratchy black MS Paint lines, with squinting eyes and a chin that juts sideways1. The face is meant to read as the smug expression of someone who just successfully wound up a stranger online, and it became the default visual stand-in for an internet troll on 4chan and in rage comics2.

In rage comic panels, Trollface is typically the character delivering the bait, paired with reaction faces like Rage Guy or Forever Alone reacting to it2. Outside comics, the image is often pasted into screenshots and photoshops as a wordless signal that a post, prank, or argument was made in bad faith1. Common captions include "Problem?" and "U mad bro?", both of which fused with the drawing during its 2009-2011 peak on Reddit's r/f7u12 subreddit1.
