In September 2021, a Twitter joke pairing a Rick and Morty screenshot with the caption "me and the bad bitch i pulled from being funny" set off a self-deprecating snowclone about punching above your dating weight thanks to an unlikely trait. By spring 2022, Tumblr users were running the format with their own OCs and swapping the final word for things like "autistic" or "goofy."

Overview

A typical post in the Me And The Bad Bitch I Pulled By Being X format places a male character beside an attractive woman, with the caption claiming he landed her by exhibiting some trait that would normally repel a date, like being cringe, autistic, goofy or just plain funny1. The humor hinges on the mismatch between the aspirational image and the chosen word, and the final slot works as a punchline the poster can tune to whatever they want to roast about themselves5.

Early captions stuck close to the original "from being funny" wording, but once creators began replacing the last word the template became a fill-in-the-blank for any self-deprecating identifier4. The image macro side is just as swappable: Morty Smith, Saul Goodman, animated characters from The Bad Guys and homemade OC drawings have all filled the "me" slot37. The meme sits next to the "She Let Me Hit Because I'm Goofy" snowclone, trading in the same ironic claim that an off-putting personality is actually a dating advantage5.

How It Spread

The first notable second use came on March 25th, 2022, when the Instagram page willawanna reused the "i pulled from being funny" caption over a shot of Saul Goodman and Kim Wexler in bed from Better Call Saul, drawing roughly 4,800 likes in three months3. A month later, on April 25th, 2022, spooked_memes.v4 reposted an edit by the since-deleted account sansnuts that captioned a still from The Bad Guys with "Me and the bad bitch I pulled by being goofy and silly," earning about 6,000 likes4.

That "goofy and silly" variant is what turned the caption into a true snowclone. On May 3rd, 2022, Instagram page punished.dimitri.amiibo swapped the last word to read "Autistic," clearing 130 likes within a month and spelling out the fill-in-the-blank structure for everyone else6. The autistic variant then took off on Tumblr, where users paired it with their own original characters5.

On May 23rd, 2022, Tumblr blog spooksier posted an "autistic" edit featuring their own OC that pulled around 1,700 notes in a week7. From there the template kept circulating as a flexible caption, with the final word getting swapped for whatever self-roasting trait a poster wanted to claim as their secret dating advantage5.
