The commercial came out of a 2009 Reese's Puffs campaign called "The Perfect Breakfast," developed by ad agency Burrell Communications, in which a boy's parents tell him the concert is coming to him instead of the other way around before two rappers appear to sing about the cereal1. YouTube user kevinandcarldotcom uploaded the full spot on November 9th, 2009, and a shorter cut focused just on the rap was posted by user HANKU7009 earlier that July5.

On January 6th, 2010, actor Tajh Bellow, who played the kid in the commercial, uploaded a full extended version of the Reeses Puffs Rap to his own YouTube channel under the name TajhMusic, which grew to over 400,000 views over the next twelve years6.

Three months later, on May 27th, 2015, YouTuber iDubbbz danced to the Uptown Funk version in his 100,000 subscriber special, and a clip of that dance reposted by C4RDINAL in December pushed the sound to millions more viewers2.

The rap got its TikTok era on January 16th, 2022, when @misc_mashup layered the verse over the already viral Misery x CPR mashup, a video that racked up 1.1 million views in a month8. On January 20th, TikToker @iimmy_xx built the animation format where each vocal track was assigned to a different character, using the three Spider-Men from Spider-Man: No Way Home, and by February 17th, 2022, over 239,700 videos on TikTok were using the mashup8.
