Son 😭😭😭😭😭 is a catchphrase and image macro format that pairs the word 'Son' with a long string of Loudly Crying Face emojis. Built around an edited Anthony Mackie smirk photo, it spread through TikTok and Reddit comment sections starting in September 2025 as a playful 'are you serious?' reaction.

Overview

The Son 😭😭😭 meme is a catchphrase paired with image macros and reaction images, built around the word 'Son' followed by a string of Loudly Crying Face emojis3. People use it to convey light-hearted disappointment or a 'are you serious?' vibe, sitting somewhere between 'bruh' and laughing through tears. Captions often pair the phrase with 'I'm crine' for extra punch.

The core visual is a doctored photo of actor Anthony Mackie smirking, edited to make him look heavier1. The image started circulating in TikTok comment sections in late 2025 as both a reaction and an exploitable template3. Variants quickly piled up, including a Charlie Kirk version and the Son Baby edit that swapped in the AI Baby Holding Laugh image.

By 2026, users kept pumping out fresh takes by swapping the character, layering different artwork, or building wordplay around the title. The Sonion edit, which fused the Mackie smirk with an onion, became one of the more viral spinoffs alongside riffs like 'Capri-Son'3.

That comment is the earliest known upload of the image online, though it likely originated in a TikTok comment first.

Later the same day, Redditor sprangel21 dropped a low-quality, black-and-white version of the same image in an /r/GoodAssSub post2. Both early appearances point to Reddit and TikTok comment sections as the meme's launch pad.
