WAGTFKY
Published November 2, 2026
WAGTFKY stands for "We Are Going To Fucking Kill You," an acronym X users started pairing with photos of J.D. Vance, Donald Trump and other Republican figures in late 2024. The joke began when @CityBureaucrat edited a Vance campaign fundraising email in August 2024, and by January 2025 posters were captioning Vance's official Vice Presidential portrait with the phrase as a running bit about how menacing the image already looked.
Overview
Posts in the WAGTFKY format pair an official photo of a Republican politician, usually J.D. Vance or Donald Trump, with the full "We Are Going To Fucking Kill You" caption styled to look like a fundraising email or campaign graphic2. The joke works because so many of the portraits already look glowering and backlit, so the death-threat caption reads as a straight description of what the image seems to say on its own3. Vance's VP portrait anchored several of the biggest January 2025 versions, with @ManDaveJobGood arguing the subject himself must want every image captioned that way3.
Variants expand the subject pool. @kikisknees added glowing laser eyes to Barron Trump and tagged it "WAGTFKY…and we have 4 years to make it perfect"6. @The_WGD applied the line to a photo of Vance meeting Han Zheng, the Vice President of China, and called every picture of Vance "'we are going to fucking kill you, dawg'coded"4. The acronym also travels as text-only shorthand, as when @shortmagsmle argued the federal renaming of Mount McKinley "should be interpreted as a warning that WAGTFKY"7.
