Walt Screaming In A Car is a February 2021 4chan post that rewrites a tense Breaking Bad scene as Walter White frantically yelling at Hank about sweet and sour sauce instead of a hit squad. The parody blew up months later when animators swapped Walt for Tricky the Clown from Madness Combat, whose own target character is also named Hank.

Overview

Walt Screaming In A Car, also called Walter White Yelling "No" At Hank or Hank Get The Sweet And Sour Sauce, started as a screenshot with rewritten dialogue posted to 4chan in early 20211. The image comes from Breaking Bad season 5 episode 13, where Walter White (Bryan Cranston) sits locked in a car shouting at Hank Schrader (Dean Norris) to warn him about the crew coming to kill him3. In the joke version, Walt is just really upset about the wrong takeout sauce.

The bit hit a second peak when animators swapped Walt for Tricky the Clown, an antagonist from Madness Combat whose main target also happens to be named Hank2. The crossover let fans pretend Tricky was the one screaming for sweet and sour, and it took off across YouTube, Twitter, and Newgrounds.

On February 1st, 2021, an anonymous poster on 4chan's /tv/ board dropped the Breaking Bad screencap with a caption reading "HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANK HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANK GET THE SWEET AND SOUR SAUCE HAAAAAAAAAAAANK THE SWEET AND SOUR NOT BARBEQUE HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANK"1. The elongated H's turned Walt's panicked yell into a botched takeout order. Within two days, iFunny user 4Runner reworked it into an image macro that pulled over 300 smiles in four days3.

How It Spread

The bigger jump happened on May 25th, 2021, when Twitter user @AetherDX posted a video edit placing Tricky the Clown into the car, dubbed over with a shouted reading of the 4chan text by Twitter user @Kira_supernova2. The clip pulled around 13,000 views and 1,700 likes inside two weeks. A YouTube reupload two days later cleared 30,000 views in a comparable window4.

Bigger animations followed fast. On May 31st, YouTuber ChimeraArtist put out a full animated take on the scene that hit roughly 618,000 views in about a week3. Jace Studio dropped their own version on June 3rd that reached around 440,000 views, and on June 5th Newgrounds user Daniel Santos posted a 3D animation set to the same audio.

Fan art carried the joke onto Reddit through June. /r/MadnessCombat and /r/FridayNightFunkin filled up with drawings of Tricky pleading over the mixed-up sauce, including a piece by u/kykbln that racked up 1,100 upvotes on the former and 2,900 on the latter in three days5.

How to Use This Meme

The format typically pairs the elongated "HAAANK" caption with the locked-car screenshot, swapping the object of Walt's panic for something trivial like a takeout order or a missing item. Video versions often replace Walt's face with Tricky the Clown from Madness Combat and dub the audio in a high-pitched screech to match the original 4chan text.
