Overview

Zias and B.Lou's Sound Faster Than Light Test is a viral clip from a March 2025 ZIAS! livestream where the two streamers try to settle a chat question about physics by flicking on a phone flashlight at the same moment one of them shouts 'Ah,' then judging by feel which one arrived first1. B.Lou rules that sound wins 'sometimes,' even though light is objectively faster, and the deadpan confidence of the ruling is the whole joke2.

The bit lives inside the pair's recurring 'Hood Research Department' segment, in which they test scientific ideas with visibly unscientific methods2. Edits that spread in September 2026 lean into that framing by treating Zias and B.Lou as serious researchers, pairing the flashlight clip with orchestral music, lab b-roll, and captions calling them geniuses34.

The test happened during a ZIAS! YouTube livestream on March 22nd, 2025, at roughly the 1:51:24 mark, when Zias read a chat message asking whether sound is faster than light and decided to run the experiment on the spot1. He turned on his phone flashlight at the same moment he made the 'Ah' noise, and B.Lou called it live, giving the win to sound2.

The clip is credited to the streamers' ongoing 'Hood Research Department' series, which frames goofy on-stream experiments as legitimate science2. Zias and B.Lou created the moment themselves; no separate editor is credited with the original format.

How It Spread

The clip first traveled through TikTok in the days after the stream. On March 23rd, 2025, TikToker @clipscentral766 reposted the raw moment and pulled over 2 million views across the following year5.

It went quiet for more than a year before catching a second wind. On September 14th, 2026, TikToker @bah7uz posted an ironic edit built on the clip that hit more than 3.7 million views in three days6. The following day, @gigasethh uploaded another edit that cleared 369,000 views inside two days7, and @yhorikedits posted a similar edit that passed 235,000 views in the same window8.

From there the format multiplied across TikTok, with creators like @uwu_ceo9, @brad.o.o10, @whichampity___11 and @battle_roach12 running their own 'great scientist' cuts. Instagram Reels picked up the same edits, and viewers started calling the duo the 'Hood Research Department' in comments2.
