Can I Get To The Yams, also known as Fetty Wap's Sweet Yamz, comes from a November 2022 cover the rapper recorded of Masego and Devin Morrison's song Yamz, released days before Thanksgiving. His earnest belt of the lyric sparked TikTok lip syncs and photo slideshows labeling attractive characters as sweet yams, with Wiz Khalifa and Snoop Dogg piling on their own reactions by late November 2022.

Overview

The format runs two ways on TikTok. Fans either mimic Fetty Wap's heartfelt belt of the Can I Get To The Yams line as a lip sync, or they set the audio over photo slideshows of celebrities, anime characters, or crushes they want to call a sweet yam1. The slideshow variant leans into horny-posting, with posters casting the song as earnest praise for whoever they consider attractive5. Posts typically open with the slow buildup of Fetty Wap's hook and climax with the yams belt, giving creators a clear rhythm to time photo transitions.

The joke doubles as a Thanksgiving mood piece because the song came out the week of the holiday, letting posters link yams-the-food to yams-the-crush. Rapper reactions widened the audience, and Fetty Wap himself amplified Wiz Khalifa and Snoop Dogg clips by reposting their Instagram Stories to his own TikTok89.
