Internet Husband, also known as Redditor's Wife or Anon Wife, is a 2011 image macro built around a stock photo of a woman glaring at her computer-obsessed partner from a doorway. Born on Reddit that May, it became one of the earliest formats used to mock forum addiction and terminally online husbands.

Overview

The setup relies on a single reused image: a woman in pajamas standing in the bedroom doorway, looking exhausted, while a man hunches over a monitor with his back turned4. Overlaid captions speak from the wife's frustrated point of view, usually referencing specific internet in-jokes she doesn't get or resents3. The format's flexibility let it fork across communities, appearing as Anon Wife on MemeGenerator for 4chan users6 and as Funnyjunker's Wife on FunnyJunk. That community-swap trick made the same photo a mirror for whichever site was joking about its own regulars.

The base photo is a Getty Images stock shot titled 'Man working at computer with sad woman in background'5. It first appeared as a meme on May 18, 2011, when a Redditor posted it in a thread called 'The door swings both ways' as a reply to another Reddit post titled 'I must admit I've thought of this myself'4. The name Redditor's Wife stuck two days later, on May 20, 2011, after the image was reposted to /r/AdviceAnimals with that caption1.

How It Spread

The format caught on through blog roundups. On May 26, 2011, Blame It On The Voices ran a post titled 'Meme Alert: Redditor's Wife' collecting early variations2. A week later, on June 2, 2011, Uproxx published a compilation of ten Redditor's Wife edits that made the rounds among culture blogs3. From there the image jumped platforms fast, showing up on Tumblr under the #redditors wife tag and being loaded into MemeGenerator as Anon Wife for 4chan-flavored jokes6. FunnyJunk users rebranded it Funnyjunker's Wife, keeping the same photo but swapping the punchlines to fit their own board culture3.
