#MillennialCommandments is a Twitter hashtag game that took off on February 5, 2019, after user @ADudeCalledDan invited followers to rewrite the Ten Commandments as jokes about millennial habits. Overview

The format is dead simple. Users pick one of the biblical commandments and swap in a punchline about a millennial cliché, then tag the post with #MillennialCommandments1. Common targets include safe spaces, participation trophies, smart speakers, self-care language, and the 'I can't even' verbal tic2. The best posts land by mashing scripture cadence against extremely online vocabulary, so 'Thou shalt' becomes the setup for whatever generational jab the poster is going for.

Because it ran as an official hashtag game curated by @HashtagRoundup, entries stayed short and punchline-driven rather than sprawling into threads3. That gave it the rhythm of a stand-up open mic more than a real debate about millennial identity, which is how similar daily-prompt hashtags on Twitter typically play out4.

How to Use This Meme

To play, take a biblical commandment cadence like 'Thou shalt' or 'Thou shalt not' and finish it with a punchline about a millennial trope, avocado toast, therapy speak, Alexa, cancel culture, then tag #MillennialCommandments. Short one-liners typically outperform threads, and the standout entries lean on stereotype exaggeration rather than sincere generational commentary1.
