Overview

Ninja Sex Party's formula pairs Avidan's over-the-top singing about wild sexual scenarios with Wecht performing alongside him under the Ninja Brian stage persona. Songs like 'Dinosaur Laser Fight' typify the group's tilt toward absurdist cartoon fantasy rather than straight raunch, and the pop-rock production carries the sexual joke lyrics rather than dressing them up as parody12.

Fan-written Urban Dictionary entries call the catalog songs with 'incredibly sexual themes and lyrics' that still work as real music6. That combination drew video game and internet culture crowds to the channel and set up the audience overlap with the Game Grumps community, which would push the duo's profile much higher a few years after their debut4.

Their first YouTube upload, 'I Just Want To (Dance),' went live on October 22nd, 2009 and had pulled over 760,000 views by May 20141. Two months later, on December 14th, 2009, the duo posted 'The Decision'2. Funny or Die featured the video the following day and College Humor picked it up on December 16th4.

How It Spread

'The Decision' pulled over 1.1 million views by May 20142. On August 17th, 2011, the duo uploaded 'Dinosaur Laser Fight,' which grew into the most-viewed video on their YouTube channel with over 2.7 million views by mid-20143. Their debut album NSFW arrived on September 29th, 2011, with a promotional video following in early October.

The group's audience jumped sharply when Avidan joined Arin Hanson's Game Grumps gaming channel in June 20134. That December, Wecht and Avidan teamed with Hanson (Egoraptor) on the comedy rap album Starbomb, released on December 17th, 2013; its animated single cleared 8.6 million views on Egoraptor's channel within months of upload5. Two karaoke-focused companion releases, Starbomb Ex Plus Alpha and Starbomb Rap Along, followed three days later on December 20th, 2013.

Fan-written Urban Dictionary entries described the group's catalog as songs with 'incredibly sexual themes and lyrics' that still worked as legitimate music, a fan reception that tracked with the band's move from a niche YouTube act to a mid-sized touring music-comedy project6.
