Overview

Sitting Wolf is an image macro featuring a bipedal white werewolf with small horns, seated on a rocky shore leaning against a tree and gazing out at a turbulent ocean under a stormy sky2. The template became widely used in Spanish-language 'Lobos Con Frases' (Lone Wolf) Facebook edits that parody inspirational quote pages4.

The base drawing was later paired with the artist's other wolf and werewolf illustrations, like 'Downfall,' which shows a wolf riding a motorcycle1. Meme editors treated these as related characters within the same broader template2.

On April 7, 2015, DeviantArt user WolfRoad uploaded the drawing 'Voices,' which sat quietly on the site for years before it was pulled into meme circulation. On April 26, 2022, Facebook user Juan Pablo Nicolás posted the first known 'Lobos Con Frases' edit using it inside the group Furry Fandom Latinoamerica 2.0, captioned 'Looking at a window is like looking at a wall, only instead of a wall, it's a window' (translated from Spanish)3.

How It Spread

The joke went wide after the Facebook page Sí, es un edit reposted Nicolás' meme on May 1, 2022. On May 10, the page Girasol posted a raunchier 'Lobo Solitario' edit that hit roughly 8,300 shares, and the next day Twitter user @mxrtinamoreno1 shared the image with the one-word caption 'reflexiones,' drawing around 116,300 likes and dragging the format across platforms3. YouTuber Zona 24-7 posted a history explainer on May 17, 2022 that traced the trend back to Nicolás4.

English-speaking audiences caught on in mid-2022. On July 17, Twitter user @scr1blez posted four WolfRoad drawings captioned 'The character development of this wolf has been INSANE.' Days later, @JustNephew tweeted a green-screened edit that overlaid rain on the wolf and set it to a Bladee track, captioned 'This what Draining feels like.' In April 2023, a viral quote-tweet from @asssharterquote sparked a Mandela Effect debate about whether the wolf actually has horns, and the image later picked up a Brazilian identity as 'Domingo A Noite,' used to picture the melancholic feeling of Sunday nights3.

How to Use This Meme

The template typically pairs the sitting wolf image with an overwrought caption in the style of a Lone Wolf inspirational-quote page, either faux-deep gibberish or a punchline that undercuts the moody vibe2. Spanish edits often lean into 'Lobo Solitario' clichés, while English versions typically go absurd or ironic. Some edits swap in WolfRoad's other wolf drawings for a 'character development' gag1.
