Skamtebord
Published November 3, 2026
Skamtebord names the image macro style where someone texts a celebrity or brand and gets back a misspelled word tied to their job. It sprang from an October 2019 Reddit post showing a fake exchange with Tony Hawk, who replied 'skamtebord' to a casual greeting. By February 2020 a dedicated subreddit was collecting parodies, spawning offshoots like the Bnuuy meme.
Overview
Posts in the Skamtebord style share a visual template: a screenshot of a text conversation where someone greets or asks a question of a famous person or company, and the other side answers with a single misspelled word tied to their occupation1. Humor comes from the mismatch between the polite opener and the goofy, out-of-context reply.
Many posts are direct parodies of the Tony Hawk original. Variations swap the skater for a fictional character, a band, or a corporate account like PetSmart2. Some screenshots are plainly doctored, while others collect genuine typos found on Reddit itself3.
