Overview

The iPod Brothers and Fuck You Brothers, also called Sniff and Whimper, are a family of redraw memes built around a fixed layout: two characters side by side over a labeled banner, each with a speech bubble naming them. In the 'iPod brothers' version the pair say 'I'm VolumeUp' and 'and I'm PlayButton'2. In the 'fuck you brothers' variant they announce 'I'm eat shit' and 'I'm die' over a flame-lettered banner3.

The joke traces back to a stylized image macro of two twin babies captioned 'the cigarette company,' where the babies introduce themselves as 'sniff' and 'whimper'1. Later posts kept the composition intact and swapped out the banner text, the character designs, and the paired names, which is what turned the joke into a reusable template5.

On August 15, 2023, Tumblr user toilethumor turned the joke darker with a text-only post reading 'the fuck you brothers I'm eat shit And I'm die,' pulling around 16,900 notes within two weeks3. The next day, Tumblr user sugarnsaffron replied with a photoshop of two ducks over a fiery 'fuck you brothers' banner, then followed up with a version adding raised middle fingers4.

The template then jumped into fandom art. That same day, lemonlurkrr posted a Metal Gear redraw that hit around 1,800 notes9. An Undertale version from roromiie206 followed on August 2510, and theelectricbloodred posted a One Piece redraw on August 2611.

How to Use This Meme

The template typically keeps the two-character-plus-banner composition and swaps three things: the two paired names, the banner text, and the character designs. A common convention is to pair short, oppositional names (like 'VolumeUp' and 'PlayButton') under a title that reads like a corporate or gang label (like 'the iPod brothers')5.
