Overview

The Lamp Story is a first-person account posted as a Reddit comment where the narrator imagines a complete alternate life during the seconds after a head injury, snapping back when a flickering living room lamp breaks the illusion1. The confession details years of marriage, two children, and a career before the fuzzy lamp triggers the realization that none of it is real4.

Readers debate whether the account describes dissociation, a near-death vision, or a reality glitch, which is why it later moved to /r/Glitch_in_the_Matrix instead of a horror board2. The emotional punch sits in the grief for a wife and children who never existed outside the narrator's head.
