"There Is A Threat On Earth" Steven Universe is an exploitable image macro that puts a crying, text-spouting Steven Universe next to a stoic character answering an apocalyptic threat with a single word or gesture. iFunny user @Ayoz posted the first version on July 15, 2021, matching Steven against Kratos from God of War. By spring 2022, Instagram remixers were plugging in Luffy from One Piece and Mereana Mordegard Glesgorv in the second slot.

Overview

Posters set up the template around a strong tonal mismatch. On the left side, a frazzled Steven rambles through a lengthy block of panicked dialogue, often listing fears or begging for safety. On the right side, the opposing character answers with a terse response like Kratos pressing the PlayStation circle button, a short line of dialogue, or an unreadable facial expression3.

Humor comes from the gap between Steven's emotional spiral and the second character's unbothered reply, which handles a world-ending threat as routine. Variations lean on characters associated with violence or stoicism, like Kratos or Muscle Man from Regular Show, but also use absurd stand-ins such as creepypasta figures or Angry Birds characters4. The caption "there is a threat on earth" sits at the top of most posts, cueing the setup.
