Mimiyori, a webcomic artist, posted a single-panel group portrait on Twitter in March 2022 in which every character shares one thought bubble reading, 'Wow. These people are so weird. Thank god I'm the normal one.' A Demon Slayer redraw appeared within 24 hours, and the format kept cycling through anime fandoms through late 2023, including a Bocchi the Rock! edit that hit r/BocchiTheRock in August.

Overview

Each redraw keeps the composition of Mimiyori's original: four or more characters standing shoulder to shoulder, every face wearing the same mildly smug expression, all of them wired to a single shared thought bubble1. The humor comes from the fact that nobody in the group is actually normal, since every character has already quietly clocked their companions as weird. Picking a visibly eccentric cast, like Stand users or Demon Slayer swordsmen, sharpens the joke because the audience reads all of them as the weirdos2.

Mimiyori drew the original piece and is also known on Twitter for the webcomic Among Us Girl5. Posts labeling an entire friend group 'the normal one' through the shared bubble turned into a lightweight way to roast a fandom's own lineup of oddballs. The format works best with casts whose dynamic already includes someone insisting they are the sensible one, which is why Wow These People Are So Weird redraws keep resurfacing in anime circles7.

Twitter user @_mimiyori posted the original illustration on March 9, 2022, showing four of her own characters standing side by side under a shared thought bubble reading, 'Wow. These people are so weird. Thank god I'm the normal one.' The post passed 1,700 likes over the following year1.

One day later, on March 10, 2022, Twitter user @tanijrou posted the first widely circulated redraw, swapping Mimiyori's lineup for the Demon Slayer cast2. That edit passed 2,000 likes within a year and set the pattern later redraws would follow5.

How It Spread

The template went quiet for most of 2022 until November 27, when @MariOrSomething posted a Mob Psycho 100 version drawn with Reigen and the Psycho Helmet cult; that redraw drew more than 14,000 likes in a year, the biggest hit the format produced3. On March 26, 2023, @SoggusBoggus staged a JoJo's Bizarre Adventure take on the same bubble that drew over 8,900 likes in eight months4.

Reposts carried Wow These People Are So Weird off Twitter during summer 2023. Instagram account akaza.senpai put the Demon Slayer edit back in circulation on July 6, 2023, picking up over 4,000 likes within four months6. Reddit user u/orgeezuz brought the joke to r/BocchiTheRock on August 28 with a Kessoku Band version that passed 2,100 upvotes7.

The template kept producing new fandom versions into late 2023. On October 21, 2023, Twitter user @RandomMaskedd posted an Amazing Digital Circus version featuring Pomni and the other inmates, which drew more than 1,200 likes in a month8.
