"Fuck Me Yourself You Coward" is a catchphrase from a late 2018 Facebook exchange where one user answered "Go fuck yourself" with the titular reply. Screenshots hit Reddit and Tumblr in early January 2019, and anime and gaming fan artists quickly turned the two-line back-and-forth into a template for their own character pairings.

Overview

"Fuck Me Yourself You Coward" is a catchphrase pulled from a Facebook exchange where one anonymous user told another to "Go fuck yourself" and got the titular reply in return1. The comeback flips a stock insult into a sarcastic dare, treating the aggressor as too weak to follow through on their own words. Screenshots of the conversation jumped from Reddit to Tumblr in early 2019, and the line quickly moved past its original screenshot form2.

The joke sticks because the reply is both absurd and technically coherent. Reading the response as a sincere request forces the original insulter into a corner. Anime and video game fan artists jumped on the format within weeks, drawing characters delivering the line to each other for gag comedy6.

Date

Facebook user Kiel Fauxton posted the original comeback on December 28th, 2018, after being told to "Go fuck yourself" in a comment thread4. The exchange sat quietly for about a week until a Reddit user reposted the screenshot to /r/suicidebywords on January 4th, 2019, where it collected more than 320 points1.

An earlier version of the same joke had run on Tumblr years before. On April 3rd, 2016, user socio--flower answered an anonymous "kill yourself" ask with "Kill me yourself you fucking pussy," and the post pulled in more than 315,000 notes over the following three years3. Reddit user xlopfdkf reposted that older exchange to /r/meirl on May 7th, 2018, where it climbed to around 47,900 upvotes5.

How It Spread

Tumblr picked the screenshot up on January 6th, 2019, when user fuks reblogged it and pushed the post past 149,000 notes2. Six days later, user ohnoafterlaughs posted Overwatch fan art of the exchange, which cleared 20,000 notes on its own4.

The format kept crossing fandoms through early 2019. On February 13th, Redditor DoubleJMoney12 posted Girls' Frontline fan art of the two lines to /r/anime_irl, where it earned over 18,000 points6. Others rebuilt the joke inside reaction image templates, including a Skyrim skill tree parody in /r/PewDiePieSubmissions that pulled around 2,400 points1.

How to Use This Meme

The template typically pairs the two lines with a matching image, whether that's a plain screenshot, fan art of two characters, or a reaction image edit. The setup line is often the generic "Go fuck yourself," and the punchline "Fuck me yourself, you coward" lands on the second panel. Creators commonly swap in fictional pairs whose dynamic makes the exchange read as either flirtation or a challenge.
