Overview

Gateway Of The Mind is a short horror creepypasta framed as a leaked account of a religious science experiment. Researchers pick an ordinary man off the street and surgically cut off his five senses one by one, believing sensory input blocks direct communication with God1. Trapped inside his own head, the subject starts screaming that he can hear ghosts and dead relatives, then quietly says God has abandoned the world before dying3.

The piece is compact, clinical in tone, and leans on medical detail rather than jump scares. That deadpan format is a big reason readers pass Gateway Of The Mind around as an example of atmospheric horror done in only a few hundred words3.

Platform
Creepypasta Wiki
Date
2010

Gateway Of The Mind was first posted to the Creepypasta Wiki on August 9, 2010, where it still sits in the site's short-story archive1. The author was never publicly identified, which is common for early Creepypasta Wiki submissions.

The title is often linked to Gateways to the Mind, a 1958 Bell Laboratory educational film about the human senses, though the connection is speculative rather than confirmed4.

How It Spread

The story moved off Creepypasta Wiki through horror aggregator blogs and YouTube narration channels in the early 2010s. On July 15, 2012, the YouTube account creepypaste uploaded a short clip titled Gateway Of The Mind that was pitched as footage of the subject from the story2. By mid-2014 the video had pulled close to 100,000 views and was one of the top hits for the title3.

Know Your Meme catalogued the story and noted how often it appears on scariest-creepypasta ranking posts across forums and YouTube compilations3. It is still cited in creepypasta reading lists and narration channel back catalogues as a go-to short entry.

Unlike louder creepypastas such as Slender Man or Jeff the Killer, Gateway Of The Mind never spun off major fan art or games. Its footprint stays mostly text, retellings, and the occasional narrated video2.
