A still of AEW wrestler John Silver yapping at Anna Jay, who widens her eyes and looks away, caught on with Twitter users in February 2022 as a bro-explaining style caption format. Overview

Captions put a rambling monologue in Silver's mouth about something a poster wants to depict as insufferable, with Jay's wide-eyed glance away acting as the trapped listener. Common subjects include obscure gaming communities, crypto and NFTs, and inside-baseball fandom drama, which lines up the image with the earlier Bro Explaining format but adds wrestling-specific recognition for AEW fans3.

The viral still from @good_faces_bot catches the exact moment Jay breaks eye contact, giving posters a reusable one-panel template with no cropping needed2. Longer riffs sometimes stack several quote tweets to run a multi-paragraph rant, while most entries stay as one image plus one caption of whatever topic the poster thinks nobody wants to hear about.

The source clip aired on September 13, 2021, when the Being The Elite YouTube channel uploaded episode 273, titled 'Catching Up'1. In a sketch starting around the seven-minute mark, John Silver plays a drunk guy barraging his AEW stablemate Anna Jay with increasingly unhinged personal stories as she visibly tries to escape the conversation, part of The Elite stable's recurring comedy bits on the channel3.

On February 7, 2022, bot account @good_faces_bot posted a still from the sketch showing Silver mid-sentence with Jay's eyes bulging away, where it collected over 620 retweets, 1,400 quote tweets, and 9,500 likes within four days2. Earlier limited meme use appeared in February 2021 around episode 241, 'The Betrayal Is Real,' which featured a similar expression from Jay6, with scattered posts from accounts like @GlobalForceGold7 and @snoringelbow8 going nowhere at the time.

How It Spread

The quote-tweet chain under @good_faces_bot's post became the main vector for the format. On the same day the still appeared, @benpaste quote-tweeted it with a monologue referencing the long-running Minecraft anarchy server 2b2t, hitting over 3,400 retweets and 53,100 likes within four days4. Two days later, on February 9, 2022, @kielbasagarage posted an NFT-themed caption that reached over 16,500 retweets and 177,100 likes in two days, far outpacing the original still5.

The topics people chose to put in Silver's mouth leaned on things seen as tedious to explain, with crypto and NFTs hitting hardest during the early-2022 Bored Ape news cycle5. Wrestling fans added in-jokes about AEW and promotion politics, but the image spread well outside wrestling Twitter because Jay's expression read as a universal 'please stop talking' to viewers with no idea who either wrestler was3.

How to Use This Meme

Typically the image is captioned with a long monologue in Silver's voice about a topic the poster wants to paint as self-indulgent or exhausting to listen to. Common conventions include writing the rant as if Silver has cornered someone at a party, often about crypto, niche video game servers, or online fandom lore. Some posters chain the image across multiple quote tweets to extend the bit.
