Kerfuś is a cat-faced Pudu Robotics BellaBot deployed in Polish Carrefour supermarkets that became a viral meme after clips of it greeting customers spread on TikTok in September 2022.

Where did Kerfus come from?

Carrefour Polska introduced the robot on its Warsaw Facebook page on September 22nd, 2022, and TikToker @khghjvfrh's non-promotional clip the same day made the nickname stick.

What does Kerfus mean?

The name is a Polish diminutive form of Carrefour, coined by Carrefour Polska itself when the store announced the robot as a 'new team member'.

How do you use Kerfus?

People typically edit the robot's tablet-face with brand logos like Pepsi and KFC, draw fan art, or drop screenshots into exploitable formats like Drakeposting.

Is Kerfus still popular?

The viral peak was October 2022 across Polish TikTok, Twitter, and Reddit, and Kerfuś is now considered a classic piece of Polish internet culture rather than active trending content.

Overview

Kerfuś is a service robot stationed inside Polish Carrefour supermarkets that became a viral meme in October 2022. The robot itself is a BellaBot, a cat-faced hospitality unit made by Shenzhen-based Pudu Robotics1. Polish shoppers nicknamed it Kerfuś, a portmanteau of Carrefour with a Polish diminutive suffix, after clips of the meowing, obstacle-dodging robot spread on TikTok and Twitter4.

The meme cluster leans wholesome. Fan artists drew Kerfuś with Pepsi and KFC logos and treated the robot as a sweet character rather than a corporate machine7. NSFW and Rule 34 output surfaced within days of the initial spread, tying the robot to broader robot fetish art trends8.

The hardware behind Kerfuś is the BellaBot, first shown in a Pudu Robotics YouTube promo on January 24th, 2021, which pulled around 247,300 views in its first eighteen months3. The same model turned up in businesses across Canada, Spain, Taiwan, and Russia, and at Philippine Jollibee outlets in April 2022 where it briefly trended as 'Jollibot'1.

The Polish rebrand happened on September 22nd, 2022, when Carrefour Polska's Facebook page in Warsaw introduced the robot as a 'new team member' named Kerfuś2. That announcement is where the nickname stuck.

How It Spread

Hours after the Carrefour post, TikToker @khghjvfrh posted the first non-promotional Kerfuś clip, which pulled around 532,700 plays and 65,200 likes over the next month4. Twitter caught on the next day; user @gutekofiszjal tweeted a Kerfuś photo captioned 'Taki słodziak podał mi pizzę' ('Such a sweetie gave me a pizza,' translated from Polish), reaching roughly 6,800 likes in a month5.

Reddit lagged by about three weeks. The dedicated /r/kerfus subreddit went up on October 18th, 20226, and Polish subs like /r/Polska_wpz filled with Drakeposting edits and image macros that same day7. Fan art escalated fast: Twitter user @POCHOWEK drew Kerfuś with two knives on October 13th, and @PaulMcIcedTea's NSFW rendition on October 19th cleared 10,900 likes in a day8.
