Overview

Across Twitter, Instagram and DeviantArt, artists leaned into Planetina's design and her short-lived romance with Morty, posting both wholesome fan art and heavy rule 34 content within days of the episode airing2. Illustrator @sheepiu's Twitter doodles of the character became one of the circulated early examples on the platform3, while DeviantArt pieces such as @sonson-sensei's July 2021 portrait caught similar traction5.

The humor often plays on the ethical mess of the episode itself: Morty's rescue of Planetina by killing the Tina-teers, her slide into eco-terrorism after destroying a mine with workers inside, and the breakup that caps the half hour4. Edits range from static illustrations to short animated music videos set to clips of Morty and Planetina together, with the cold open where she summons her elemental powers used as a frequent source frame1.

Planetina first appeared in 'A Rickconvenient Mort,' season five episode three of Rick and Morty, which aired on Adult Swim on July 4th, 20214.
