Overview

Scrimblo Bimblo is a joke term for imaginary obscure video game characters that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fans supposedly demand be added to the roster1. The name pairs with "Popular McJRPGGuy," a stand-in for whatever Fire Emblem or JRPG protagonist gets picked instead3. The bit mocks how furious Smash players get when their favorite nostalgic mascot loses a slot to another sword-wielding anime character.

The joke works because Scrimblo Bimblo is nonsensical by design, tagged with the phrase "the Lovable Scrunko" and described as being from "the great platformer they played as kids 26 years ago"1. Fans often plug in Crash Bandicoot, Banjo-Kazooie, or similar cartoony platform mascots as the real target. The name later broadened as shorthand for cult-favorite gaming characters nobody outside their fanbase recognizes6.
