Shadow Wizard Money Gang

The joke is almost entirely built from one deep-voiced line: "shadow wizard money gang, we love casting spells." It originates as a producer tag Dj Smokey drops at the top of Joeyy's track "Gout," sitting in the same bag as the "legalize nuclear bombs" tag the two artists also popularized12. The tag actually belongs to Canadian producer Louka Tessier, who lets Smokey borrow it2.

On TikTok, the audio usually works as a two-part gag. A clip plays of someone making a wild claim about witchcraft, most often TikToker @thatjesusgeneration insisting that "masturbation is a form of witchcraft," and then the beat drops into the tag while the creator lip-dubs the line, sometimes cutting to images of wizards3. By May 2023 the sound jumped formats into visual fan art on Twitter, where artists depicted the "gang" as hooded wizards in purple robes stacked with jewelry, their faces hidden in shadow under the hood45.

A typical post opens with an unrelated clip of someone making an outlandish statement about magic, demons or witchcraft, then cuts to the "shadow wizard money gang" audio drop while the creator mouths the line, often with wizard imagery layered over the video3. On Twitter the format is static instead: artists draw a hooded figure in a purple or dark robe, face obscured by shadow, loaded with rings and chains, and caption the piece with the phrase4.
