Overview

Shocked Katie Britt, also known as the Katie Britt Face Meme or Katie Britt Jack Smith Hearing Reaction, is a reaction clip and still image of Alabama Republican Senator Katie Britt watching Missouri Senator Eric Schmitt bungle a line of questioning aimed at former special counsel Jack Smith1. The hearing room camera slowly zoomed in on Britt as the mistake landed, catching her with an open mouth and wide eyes that read as pure secondhand embarrassment2.

The clip works as both a video reaction with the zoom intact and a frozen screengrab used as a stand-alone reaction image. Edits often pair the zoom with music cues, most notably the Curb Your Enthusiasm theme, to punctuate the exact second Britt's face falls1. The still image is captioned to describe any moment of watching someone else humiliate themselves in real time3.

The source moment happened on September 29, 2026, during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing with former special counsel Jack Smith. Schmitt pressed Smith on whether he had attended an Atlanta Hawks NBA game on February 3, 2024, trying to tie him to former Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, who had been prosecuting Donald Trump over 2020 election interference1. Smith said he had actually been at an Iowa Hawkeyes vs. Maryland Terrapins women's college basketball game that day, and Senator Amy Klobuchar later noted that Schmitt appeared to have confused the Hawks with the Hawkeyes2.

As Smith clarified the mixup, hearing-room cameras slowly zoomed in on Britt's bewildered face. AL.com uploaded footage of the moment to YouTube that same day, where it pulled in over 387,200 views, 2,900 likes and 1,050 comments within 24 hours3.
