Overview

The Spongebob Floating Kanye West Wolves meme pairs a short clip of SpongeBob rising off the ground with a heavenly glow with the intro of Kanye West's 'Wolves'1. The footage comes from season one, episode nine of SpongeBob SquarePants, titled 'Nature Pants,' where SpongeBob daydreams about giving up his job to live with the jellyfish and briefly floats mid-fantasy1.

Captions typically pair the mystical visual with something small, dumb, or ironic, working in the same setup-punchline shape as Expanding Brain edits where the final panel is the most absurd option4. As the format grew, people also used it sincerely, showing someone actually gaining power or insight from an odd act rather than mocking the setup4. Screenshots of the glowing SpongeBob, often re-edited with headphones and an iPod or MP3 player, later circulated as standalone reaction images1.

YouTuber Truevaporman uploaded the first meme edit on August 22nd, 2019, cutting the 'Nature Pants' levitation moment to the 'Wolves' intro with a caption about high schoolers passing Spanish class using nothing but Google Translate2. The underlying video edit was made by the Instagram account @memed.jpg, who first shared it on August 19th, 2019 and posted a full HD version to YouTube on August 27th along with a short tutorial showing how the glow and levitation effect were built4. Kanye West had originally released 'Wolves' in 2016 as part of his seventh album The Life of Pablo1.

How It Spread

The same day as Truevaporman's YouTube post, Twitter user @KingYandhi shared the clip framed as a 'Nobody:' joke and pulled over 80 retweets and 250 likes4. Over the next few weeks the video moved through Instagram and YouTube with new captions attached, including an eye.mp4 Instagram post about Juuls that hit around 8,500 views and a Daddylovesmemes YouTube compilation that reached about 71,000 views4.

On September 5th, 2019, TikTok user Soopoopphia used the song straight instead of ironically, joking that leaving the hamster cage open let the hamster 'attain power' and float4. That started a running TikTok trend where creators paired the 'Wolves' intro with videos of themselves appearing to rise off the ground after some minor act, including a Kudz TikTok about catching a parent mid-discipline that pulled roughly 465,000 views over two years4.

Outside those platforms, the still image of glowing SpongeBob picked up its own life, showing up as a reaction picture in tweets and Discord servers well after the video edit's initial run1.

How to Use This Meme

The template is simple: pair the floating SpongeBob clip (or a video of yourself rising into frame) with the 'Wolves' intro and a caption about a small feat or unusual act1. The ironic version lands the mystical visual on something trivial, like passing a class with a translator app; the sincere version treats the act as if it really did unlock some hidden power1.
