Overview

The debate centered on one sketch in particular, 'Hooters Waitress,' in which Sweeney played an inept server who keeps getting big tips because of her top2. X users traded short clips of the sketch alongside the opening monologue, where Sweeney referenced affair rumors with Anyone But You co-star Glen Powell and quipped 'You definitely did not see me in Madame Web' about the 2024 Sony flop1.

Typical posts fell into a few lanes: reaction tweets counting how many sketches leaned on her figure, screenshots of the Hooters bit, and side-by-side gags comparing Sweeney to shirtless athletes or other pop culture images3. Commentary split sharply, with some viewers calling the writing leering and others arguing Sweeney was fully in on the joke4.

Sweeney hosted Saturday Night Live on March 2, 2024, with Kacey Musgraves as the musical guest. In her opening monologue she ran through her recent credits, Anyone But You, Euphoria, and Madame Web, landing the punchline 'You definitely did not see me in Madame Web' about the Sony flop1. SNL uploaded the monologue to YouTube on March 3, 2024, where it hit more than 998,000 views and 13,000 likes within a day4.

The same episode featured the 'Hooters Waitress' sketch, in which Sweeney played a terrible but very well-tipped server at the restaurant chain, with the camera repeatedly cutting to her chest for the gag2. That sketch, together with several other bits about her body, is what viewers flagged as the show over-relying on one joke.
