How It Spread

Other early iterations of the meme joked about Fallout 76being a secret Skyrimrerelease. For example, a screenshot of a Discord chat posted to Funnyjunkon July 25th made a similar joke, gaining over 537 points. Another popular variation posted about Elder Scrolls VIwas posted to /r/Skyrim Memes, gaining over 340 points. Eventually, the set ups to each punchline began to grow less related to video game s. For example, a Greentext Story posted July 24th, 2018 and reposted to Reddit's /r/Elder Scrolls the same day gained 30 points. Another Greentext Story, posted July 22nd and reposted to /r/greentext the same day, made the story about seeing the sequel to Spider-Man- Homecoming, gaining over 27,700 points in the subreddit.
