You Just Got Hey Stinky'd is a 2020 bait-and-switch video in which a Super Mario RPG sprite performs the Club Penguin dance to a SilvaGunner remix of IYAZ's Replay, following a 'Hey, Stinky!' soundbite from Mario Party 7. Instagram meme pages assembled the format in August 2020, and Twitter users soon posted it under unrelated tweets as a prank reply.

Overview

Each clip opens on a still frame of Mario against a black background, the Mario Party 7 line 'Hey, Stinky!' plays1, then the camera zooms outward as the SilvaGunner track kicks in and the sprite starts dancing with the caption 'You Just Got Hey Stinky'd!!' underneath. Viewers expecting whatever the title or thumbnail promised get the dancing Mario instead, which is the whole bait-and-switch gag2.

Humor here sits in the SilvaGunner tradition of fake Nintendo soundtracks and ironic bait uploads4. Posters typically add the clip into comment sections or reply chains, letting the dance deliver the payoff like a visual rickroll2.

On July 25, 2020, YouTuber SilvaGunner uploaded a video titled 'Slider (July 29, 1995 build)' that referenced the long-running Super Mario 64 1995 build conspiracy2. The track inside was not the Slider song but a remix of IYAZ's 'Replay' styled like a Mario 64 piece4.

Six days later, on July 31, Twitter user WinterImpact posted an original animation of Mario sitting and performing the Club Penguin dance with custom sprite work5. One of WinterImpact's friends combined that animation with the SilvaGunner track and a 'Hey, Stinky!' sample from Mario Party 71, producing the earliest known Hey Stinky'd format video3.

How It Spread

The first widely circulated Hey Stinky'd uploads landed on August 5, 2020. Instagram meme page retarde_the_fourth posted a version using WinterImpact's dancing Mario over black, SilvaGunner's remix and the Hey Stinky'd caption, and YouTuber Velexity Volkx uploaded the same cut, which reached roughly 2,100 views in two months3. A reupload by Eruption Army, also dated August 5, reached about 58,000 views within two months6.

Reposts moved through Instagram meme pages during August 2020 and into Twitter reply chains, where users shared the video under unrelated posts as a derailing prank3. On August 21, 2020, wintuu, the account behind the WinterImpact Twitter page, uploaded a higher-quality version of her dancing Mario to YouTube8. New variants followed from other YouTubers, including a Paper Mario version by Luis Prower in place of the Mario RPG sprite9.

How to Use This Meme

A typical Hey Stinky'd post opens with a still Mario image and the Mario Party 7 soundbite, then reveals the dancing sprite and caption after a short delay. Posters commonly share it in reply chains or comment sections where the title or framing baits a serious reaction, so the viewer clicks expecting something earnest and gets the gag instead2.
