Andrew Garfield Beach Transition is a TikTok video template that cuts between a bathroom mirror scene from The Amazing Spider-Man and a beach clip from Andrew Garfield's 2022 GQ x Saint Laurent shoot, scored to a slowed remix of Kali Uchis's 'Moonlight.' The format took off on TikTok in mid-2023 as creators used the two clips to contrast an awkward version of themselves with a confident one.

Overview

Andrew Garfield Beach Transition, sometimes called the Andrew Garfield Beach Meme, is an exploitable video format that jumps from a shot of Peter Parker checking himself in a bathroom mirror to Andrew Garfield rising from a bed on a beach for GQ1. The switch is scored to a slowed and reverbed version of 'Moonlight' by Kali Uchis, which is the standard TikTok sound attached to the format3.

The gimmick is a before-and-after contrast. The mirror clip stands in for something awkward, unattractive, or low-status, and the beach clip stands in for the desirable, confident version of the same person or situation. Creators typically slap object labels on both halves so Garfield doubles as a stand-in for two competing scenarios3.

How to Use This Meme

To make one, pair the Spider-Man mirror clip with the GQ beach clip and set the transition to the slowed 'Moonlight' remix by Kali Uchis3. Common convention is to object-label the two halves so the mirror Garfield represents the awkward or losing side of a comparison and the beach Garfield represents the confident, attractive side1.
