"Day 'n' Nite" Animations is a video template in which four characters sing an a capella rendition of the 2008 Kid Cudi song while a fourth, pushed to the far right of the frame, ignores them to play a video game. The format broke out in June 2023 on TikTok with a Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse edit, then jumped to YouTube where fan animators rebuilt it with casts from Omori, Kirby and other franchises.

Overview

In a "Day 'n' Nite" Animation, four cast members from a franchise are lined up and vocalize the opening bars of Kid Cudi's 2008 single as a four-part a capella arrangement, with no backing instrumental. Each singer gets a role matched to their personality, so one holds the bassline, one takes the lead melody, and a third does background runs. The gag is the fourth figure at the far right of the frame, who is tuned out of the song and silently playing a handheld or console game1.

Creators pick their four leads to suit the joke. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was the original source cast2, but YouTubers quickly swapped in characters from Omori3 and Kirby4, and the format works for any ensemble with a clear odd-one-out. Visual style varies from clean vector animation to rough sprite edits, but the audio arrangement and the gamer on the right stay fixed as the recognizable beats of the template5.

How It Spread

YouTube is where the template became a franchise exercise. On June 10th, 2023, the channel Cartoonimations uploaded a polished Spider-Verse version that drew over 3.76 million views and 278,000 likes in about a month, dwarfing the TikTok original and setting the look most imitators copied2.

Fan animators then started porting the bit to their own fandoms. On June 12th, YouTuber valenpam released an Omori cast rendition that reached roughly 41,200 views and 3,300 likes in the following weeks3. Four days later, on June 16th, RHVGamer uploaded a Kirby version that cleared 78,200 views and 2,100 likes in under a month4. TikTok reposts and side-by-sides kept circulating through the summer, with creators like @r0se5__ and @junky_stein running the format with their own character picks89.
