Mesugaki Miku is an alternate design of Hatsune Miku drawn as a bratty 'mesugaki' character by X artist NuNuNu, who debuted her in the December 2024 Vocaloid music video 'Mimukauwa Nice Try.' The AMV showed Miku playing Uno while taunting her opponent, and within days it drew heavy pushback from fans who called the design lolibait. By mid-December 2024, r/hatsune threads and TikTok videos were arguing over whether drawing or listening to the song was ethical.

Overview

NuNuNu's design keeps Hatsune Miku's teal twintails but replaces her stage outfit with a crop top printed with the phrase 'you are an idiot,' a reference to the shock website of the same name1. In the AMV, Miku grins, sticks her tongue out, and slaps down Uno cards while mocking her off-screen opponent, which locked in what a 'mesugaki' version of Miku looks like2.

The term 'mesugaki' is Japanese slang for a cocky, bratty little girl, loosely translated as 'sassy brat'4. Fans picked up on the taunting pose and the Uno card setup almost immediately, with SFW fan art threads appearing on r/hatsune within three days of the video going live6. The character also triggered a running argument over whether the design counted as lolibait, with debates playing out across TikTok, X and Reddit58.
