My Heart Is Cold, also tagged as Putin (My Heart Is Cold), is a chorus lyric from a 2020 animated Vladimir Putin song by YouTube channel Bad History. After sitting on YouTube for nearly three years, the song's chorus took off on TikTok in early 2023 when users captioned the Putin dance clip to flex about being unbothered in bad situations.

Overview

My Heart Is Cold, also called My Heart Is Cold, My Moves Are Bold, points to the chorus of an animated Vladimir Putin song uploaded by YouTube channel Bad History in February 20201. By 2023, TikTokers were pairing the chorus with a greenscreen of the cartoon Putin sitting in a chair or dancing like a gopnik, using the clip to react to breakups, drama and other personal messes with an air of total indifference2.

A typical post opens with on-screen text about the creator's problem, say an ex calling or an awkward encounter at work, then cuts to the Putin dance when the lyric lands3. Captions riff on the chorus directly, swapping in situations where the user is pretending not to care. The animated style of the original song, which casts Putin as a strutting cartoon strongman, gave the audio a built-in attitude that TikTokers mapped onto their own flex posts4.

On February 4, 2020, the YouTube channel Bad History uploaded an animated music video titled Putin (My Heart Is Cold), a Russian-themed song in which the cartoon Putin brags over a dance beat1. The chorus, which starts around the 50-second mark, delivers the line, My heart is cold, my moves are bold, as Putin dances. By 2023 the video sat at roughly 31 million views and 810,000 likes on YouTube1.

Early engagement came through reaction content. YouTuber Colo uploaded a bit on October 27, 2020, that framed Putin himself watching the Bad History video, which pulled around 26,600 views over three years5. KYM documents these YouTube reactions as the first wave of derivative content before the audio migrated to TikTok2.

How It Spread

On February 25, 2022, TikTok user @shlegerpop reposted the Bad History video to TikTok, where it collected about 63,900 likes over the following year and gave the clip a foothold on the app6. Meme usage picked up through late 2022 and early 2023 as TikTokers started isolating the chorus and layering it over situational captions.

The format broke through on March 22, 2023, when TikToker @thundermancz posted a video that cut the chorus against a caption about his girlfriend breaking up with him, racking up roughly 2 million plays and 226,700 likes in 12 days7. After that post, variations spread fast through April 2023, with greenscreen edits of the dancing cartoon Putin becoming the signature visual pairing8. KYM cataloged the trend in April 2023 as it was still generating fresh captions2.
