Nemona is a character from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet who acts as the player's friend, guide, and primary rival, and whom fans recast as a yandere stalker in memes and fan art.

Where did Nemona come from?

She was first shown in the second trailer for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, posted to the official Pokémon YouTube channel on June 1, 2022.

What does Nemona mean?

In canon she is a cheerful, experienced trainer rival, but meme usage treats her as a cute stalker obsessed with battling the protagonist, as Urban Dictionary entries put it.

How do you use Nemona?

Fans typically draw her peeking from bushes, cornering the player, or getting fixated on rematches, playing up the yandere reading of her canon personality.

Is Nemona still popular?

The meme peaked around the game's 2022 launch window and keeps a steady presence in Pokémon fan art spaces, where her Tera Orb handoff role gives artists an ongoing hook.

Nemona is a Pokémon Scarlet and Violet rival character whose sunny canon personality got flipped into a yandere stalker meme soon after her June 1, 2022 trailer debut1. Fans recast her obsession with battling the protagonist as romantic fixation, and by late 2022 Urban Dictionary entries defined her as 'the cutest stalker you've ever seen'5.

Overview

Across fan responses, Nemona's canon traits became fuel for the yandere reading. Her lacking Poké Ball throwing skill, her bubbly disposition, and her relentless push for rematches got recast as the behavior of an obsessive stalker fixated on the protagonist4. Urban Dictionary entries from the period summed up the running joke, including example lines like 'I think I see Nemona in the bushes over there'5.

When the official Pokémon account introduced her on Twitter nine days after her trailer debut, replies voiced disappointment at another friendly Hau-type rival4. The yandere reimagining answered that complaint by giving her a sharper edge the game itself did not supply, letting fan artists lean into the gap between her canonical cheer and the stalker reading.

2022

Nemona was introduced in the second trailer for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, uploaded to the official Pokémon YouTube channel on June 1, 20221. In the clip, she asks the main character which of the three Gen 9 starters belongs to them, then battles alongside her Pawmi. Within five months the trailer collected more than 6.8 million views4.

Game Freak and The Pokémon Company developed the character; the yandere stalker meme reading is a fan creation with no single confirmed originator. Early fan art and jokes about her obsessive personality circulated across Twitter and Pokémon fan communities throughout June 20224.

How It Spread

On June 9, 2022, the official Pokémon Twitter account posted a dedicated introduction tweet for Nemona, drawing more than 8,000 views4. Replies split between hype and complaints about yet another non-threatening rival modeled on Hau from Sun and Moon, which pushed fans toward reimagining her as something more intense.

Gamerant covered Nemona on August 10, 2022, suggesting she could break two series traditions at once by being an experienced trainer who skips picking a starter and by handing players the new Terastallization gimmick2. That prediction held up: in the finished game, Nemona gives players the Tera Orb at Naranja Academy during the tutorial encounter with Team Star3.

Fan art sustained the yandere angle through the game's November 2022 launch and beyond, with Urban Dictionary capturing the running joke in a user entry calling her 'the cutest stalker you've ever seen'5. The reading stuck because her in-game dialogue keeps pressing for one more battle with the protagonist, giving artists an endless hook to riff on.
