Sanic Hegehog is a deliberately terrible MS Paint drawing of Sonic that started as a joke YouTube tutorial in March 2010. The lumpy blue sprite spawned a decade of fan art, ROM hacks, and 'Gotta Go Fast' shitposts across the Sonic community.

Overview

The character is defined by wildly disproportionate limbs, a lopsided head, and a mocking misspelling that renders 'Hedgehog' as 'Hegehog'1. Sanic art typically pairs the deformed sprite with the phrase 'Gotta Go Fast' or captions written in mangled all-caps3. The joke depends on the contrast between Sega's polished mascot and the drawing's aggressive incompetence.

Fans expanded the bit into ROM hacks, fake game trailers, and Let's Play videos that treat Sanic as an alternate Sonic5. By March 2014, DeviantART hosted more than 3,300 illustrations tagged Sanic9.
