Overview

Uh Oh! You Found The Toothpaste!?, also known as Big And Small House Toothbrush Minigame, is a short scene from a CBeebies Flash game in which the character Small protests that he can brush his teeth by himself before Big chases him across the bathroom with a toothbrush1. Grown-up viewers rediscovered the clip in August 2022 and treated Small's wide-eyed panic as a horror scene, with the player cast as a monstrous intruder forcing an unwanted act3.

Typical posts strip the minigame down to the key loop: Small's refusal line, then the frantic jumping as Big corners him1. Animators redraw the chase in sketchier, more frightening styles, while artists on Twitter lean into body horror and liminal bathroom imagery drawn from the game's flat CBeebies backgrounds2.

The Big and Small House Flash game went up on the CBeebies website in 2011, built around the BBC children's series Big and Small3. In the bathroom minigame, the player (as Big) has to brush Small's teeth five times while Small hops around the room, kicking off with the spoken line, "Uh oh! You found the toothpaste!? Let's get one thing clear, I can brush my teeth all by myself, okay?"13.

CBeebies made the game and the characters; the meme itself has no single confirmed author. The earliest viral upload of the key snippet came from TikTok user goblina.jpg on August 25th, 2022, though the clip itself is lifted straight from the 2011 game3.

How It Spread

Clips of the minigame began spreading through TikTok remix edits in August 20223. On August 25th, goblina.jpg posted the raw snippet of Small's refusal and the toothbrush chase, and the video pulled over 2.8 million views in roughly ten days3. The audio and visual quickly moved to YouTube, where creators turned it into fan animations.

On August 30th, 2022, YouTuber Living_lizard uploaded an animated take that gained over 5,000 views in a week4. Hot Minute Studios followed on September 5th with another animation that reached more than 3,000 views in a day5. Both leaned into the horror framing that TikTok had set up, treating Big's chase as predatory rather than playful.

Fan art moved on a parallel track on Twitter. On August 29th, 2022, @GaveenoBBK posted a drawing based on the scene that gained over 4,000 retweets and 37,000 likes2, and user TsuyoXmr posted their own art the same day that received over 1,000 retweets and 9,600 likes3. The combination of TikTok edits, YouTube animations and Twitter art turned a forgotten CBeebies minigame into a widely referenced horror joke within about two weeks.

How to Use This Meme

Posts typically isolate the "Uh oh! You found the toothpaste!?" line and the chase that follows, then recontextualize it. A common convention is to redraw the scene in a horror style, treat Small as a trapped victim, or splice the audio over unrelated footage where someone is being cornered. Fan artists often keep the game's pastel bathroom intact and let the uncanny energy of the original visuals carry the joke.
