Anthony Mackie's Smirk, also known as Anthony Mackie Knows Your Secret, points to the subdued half-smile the Captain America actor wears in nearly every photo and interview. On March 15, 2021, Facebook user Jason Hyman uploaded a Mackie photo compilation captioned 'Bruh Anthony Mackie always look like he know something about you,' and the line turned into a running joke across Reddit and X1. By February 2025, a single quote-tweet riffing on 'the face' during the Captain America: Brave New World press run collected over 300,000 likes4.

Overview

Posts typically take a photo of Mackie smiling slightly at a red carpet or press junket and attach a caption pretending he just overheard something embarrassing. The caption often names a specific secret, a crush, a fib, or a childhood incident. The gag works because Mackie's expression never quite breaks into a full smile, so viewers read mischief into it2.

Variations followed quickly. An iFunny post from April 2021 traded the 'he knows your secret' angle for a schoolyard joke, with text reading 'Anthony Mackie always look like he bout to say, Guess what?… Chicken butt'5. The X account @J_Nova_Kane kept the wording closer to Hyman's version, posting 'Anthony Mackie always look like he knows something about you that you and no idea he knew lmaoo' in May 20216.
