Broski On The Wing / Broski Joins Al Hilal is a TikTok song parody from October 2023 that swaps the name 'Jota' for 'Broski,' the nickname RaisingZion uses for his young son Zion. Within days, TikTokers were posting slideshow memes picturing the toddler as a soccer legend about to cash in on a Saudi Pro League contract alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar.

Overview

Posts in the format pair the parody song with a joke that Broski, the pint-sized star of RaisingZion's TikTok comedy videos, is cashing a Saudi Pro League check. The gag plays off the real wave of 2023 transfers that brought Karim Benzema, Jordan Henderson and Neymar to clubs like Al Ittihad and Al Hilal, with fans framing the moves as money grabs2. Treating a toddler as a seasoned mercenary winger is the punchline.

Typical edits are slideshows that cut from retired or Saudi-bound pros to a clip of Broski kicking a ball in his backyard, with captions like 'I retired at 28' and 'I retired at 23' building up to the Broski beat drop3. Others ironically rank the kid among the all-time greats or stage mock send-off videos as he 'moves' to Riyadh. The song itself borrows the hook of Ellie Dixon's 'Jota On the Wing,' which rides the melody of 'Dragostea din tei' (the Numa Numa song)4.

RaisingZion is a TikToker whose comedy bits star his young son Zion, nicknamed 'broski,' being coached into a soccer prodigy. On October 9th, 2023, he posted a skit where he pretends to be flying to Saudi Arabia so Broski can sign for Al Hilal, racking up more than 3 million views in four days1. The bit tied into real-world headlines about Cristiano Ronaldo's reported $200 million-a-year deal with Al Nassr and the broader exodus of stars to the Saudi league5.

The same day, TikToker @william_aye uploaded a parody of @elliedixonmusic's 'Jota On the Wing' that swapped winger Jota, who had just moved from Celtic to Al Ittihad6, for Broski. The @william_aye video crossed 994,000 views in four days, and the audio took off as a template for other creators1.

How It Spread

By mid-October 2023, the Broski On The Wing / Broski Joins Al Hilal audio was powering slideshow memes across TikTok. On October 11th, @snipekingsfc posted a video styled as a Broski retirement announcement that pulled in over 2.1 million views in two days1. The next day, @burger_king53 published a three-slide joke lining up Marco Van Basten ('I retired at 28'), Jota ('I retired at 23') and a photo of Broski captioned with an ellipsis, which hit 1.4 million views within three days3.

Other edits leaned into the ironic 'GOAT' framing. @kaktus_20_gks's October 12th post using the song reached more than 950,000 views in a single day1. The joke worked because Saudi transfer news was still fresh: Jota had been dropped from Al Ittihad's league squad just two months after his £25m move from Celtic, which fit the running bit that Broski's imaginary career would collapse the same way6.

RaisingZion was already a familiar face in soccer-TikTok before this, having taken part in the Project Mbappe meme earlier in 20231. The Broski Al Hilal cycle gave the account its biggest crossover moment, with the parody audio sitting under hundreds of fan edits through October 2023.
