How It Spread

The 'Get You Someone Who' format spread rapidly across Twitter, Facebook, and Tumblr during 2016-2017. The meme worked by contrasting negative partner qualities with positive ones, or by juxtaposing mundane actions with exaggerated descriptions. Users created variations covering romantic relationships, friendships, and even fictional character dynamics.

The meme's peak came in 2016-2017 when it dominated relationship meme culture. It was particularly popular among young women on Twitter and Tumblr who used it to discuss relationship standards and express romantic preferences.
