Mewtwo

Mewtwo's appeal comes from its status as a genetically engineered legendary Pokémon with a villainous backstory, ranked as one of the most powerful and popular monsters in the series3. Fans latched onto the character as a rare Pokémon willing to challenge trainers, destroy its own creators, and speak in full sentences in the anime7. That dark energy carried across the mainline games, the first Pokémon film, and later fighting game crossovers, keeping Mewtwo in rotation for nearly three decades1.

Every February 6, artists on Twitter mark Mewtwo's canonical in-game birthday with new illustrations, a tradition large enough that Twitter Moments compiled a highlight reel of the 2018 posts5. The character sits at #150 in the original 151-Pokémon roster and is one of the few first-generation legendaries to get repeat starring roles across later generations1.

The Mewtwo fan art tradition typically happens on February 6, the character's in-game birthday, when artists post original illustrations under Mewtwo tags on Twitter and other platforms5. Common conventions include showing Mewtwo mid-Psychic-attack, referencing the anime film's cape-and-armor look, or drawing it alongside Mew as a nod to the creation lore3.
